Dr. Steven McAnany from HSS performed my back fusion. After surgery, I was left permanently handicapped with bi-lateral drop foot. I fully understand that there are always risks with surgery, but after meeting with many surgeons of equal status it is clear Dr. McAnany was at fault.
Dr. McAnany told me he had never seen this happen before, that he lost sleep over it and contacted at least 10 other surgeons, apparently no one ever heard of it, yet a letter HSS sent me they advised me that this is a well known complication, not sure who is lying or who is super incompetent . After weeks in Stamford Hospital then Gaylord Hospital where I spent another 6 weeks, I was unable to walk, spending several months in a wheelchair, then to a walker. There have numerous surgeries, procedures, and endless PT, then there is all of the medication I MUST take daily, horrible side effects. I was also told by HSS that I should have continued to see Dr. McAnany, that I am partially responsible????? Please take care to do your homework
