About Dr. Keith Schmidt
Keith Schmidt, MD, is an interventional spine and pain management physician at Ascension Comprehensive Pain Management in Hoffman Estates and Carol Stream, Illinois. He takes a multidisciplinary approach to helping his patients find pain relief, often incorporating psychology, pharmacology, and physical therapy into their treatment plans.
Dr. Schmidt earned his doctorate of medicine degree (2009) and completed his residency at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago. During his Anesthesia residency (2010-14), he won the Resident of the Year award each year of residency, then was elected the Chief Resident, and won the coveted Robert D. Dripps, MD Memorial Award (2014) given to the top resident of the Anesthesia program. He then went on to complete a fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, which is a nationally known program for Interventional Pain Management.
As a pain management specialist, Dr. Schmidt has taken a special interest in cancer pain, complex regional pain syndrome, joint pain, spine pain, and persistent pain after surgery. He routinely uses solutions like epidural injections, kyphoplasty, spinal cord stimulation, and radiofrequency ablation to treat his patients, often opting for the least invasive approach possible.
To better support his diverse patient base, Dr. Schmidt speaks both English and Spanish.
