Dr. Joseph Messina is the medical director of DayOne Substance Use Disorder Program at the University of Vermont Medical Center and associate professor of psychiatry at the Larner College of Medicine at UVM.
Dr. Messina specializes in co-occurring addiction, psychopharmacology disorders and mood/anxiety disorders. He treats patients with conditions such as bipolar disease, PTSD, ADHD, and anxiety.
Dr. Messina’s research interests includes incidence of patients with mental health disorders.
Dr. Messina takes a personal and holistic approach with his patients. As patients share their life stories with him, he feels privileged to work to help them to relieve their distress. He has long recognized that he is not always able to help everyone but his enthusiasm is sustained by the relief he’s provided for those he has helped.
