Dr. Cox has been practicing general dentistry for over thirty years. A native of Omaha, Nebraska, he holds a dental license in both Colorado and North Carolina, where he has owned and operated dental offices in both states. He has been in North Carolina since 1996, where he sold his practice in Stanley, NC in 2014.
“My story along the path of Dental Sleep Medicine began during my time in Stanley. Well over a decade ago, I had a patient tell me that his wife was complaining of his snoring and asked me if I could help.” Although he was already a seasoned dentist, Dr. Cox realized that he, (like the majority of dentists), had little or no training on the problem. “Once I learned how widespread and underdiagnosed the problem of obstructive sleep apnea really is, and how serious the consequences are, I could no longer look at my patients every day and realize that there was little I could do to help.”
After he sold his practice in Stanley, Dr. Cox continued on this journey. Taking over 200 hours of continuing education on this subject, he earned a “Qualified Dentist” designation from the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.
“As my passion for this has grown, my goals and purpose have changed. I now want to make a difference by educating dentists, (to get more eyes on the problem), educating the public about the risks and providing a bridge to help get those affected to get the proper diagnosis and care. Lastly, I want to work with the medical community to treat those diagnosed with OSA, where I can, to possibly lengthen lifespans and improve the quality of people’s lives. This is why I created Good Night Dentistry.”
